Depicted in the center of the maṇḍala of Walse is a sixteen-leafed lotus blossom, with each leaf showing a syllable of the Tibetan alphabet. In the central circle of the maṇḍala there is a black triangle with the syllables "A" and "Ma". Four gates transect the outer square whose corners touch the outer circle of the maṇḍala.
